Pastorale Inesa de Gaxen

"The pastoral will take as its subject the life of the young Inesa de Gaxen.
Born in 1566 in La Bastide Clairence, Insa?s destiny is linked to the religious persecutions that marked the early 17th century on both sides of the Bidasoa river.
In 1580, at the age of 14, Inesa was accused of witchcraft and arrested in Hendaye by the lord of Urtubie. She was finally released at the age of 18, cleared by the Bishop of Dax. She then took refuge in Irun, where she married Pedro de Sanza, a soldier from Fontarabie.
In 1611, she was again accused of witchcraft. She never gave in to the accusations, and was once again cleared of all charges. However, she was forced into exile, sent on a boat down the Bidasoa. No one knows what happened to her?
